A MOTORIST who “miraculously” survived after driving off a nine-storey building was saved when a wire wrapped around one of his axles. The 24-year-old was left dangling in his vehicle off the side of the multi-storey car park yesterday after ramming through the protection wires.
Driver couldn’t stop his vehicle and ended up dangling midair. Cops were called to the scene in Texas, USA shortly after 2.30pm to find the hanging silver 2004 Toyota. The driver was not identified by authorities but said he was unable to stop the car before hurtling off the roof and being pulled to safety with the help of a bystander.
He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident but managed to climb out through an open window. Texas. The driver also told cops he had been trying to park the car before losing control and flipping over the side of the building.
Emergency crews attended the scene and removed the stranded car after lowering it to street level. Writing on their Facebook page, the Austin Fire Department said: “The driver was (miraculously) able to climb out of the sunroof and make his way safely back into the garage.”
The fire crew added: “From what we understand, the driver accidentally hit the gas instead of the brake.” James Davis, 29, was one of roughly 100 onlookers who saw the dangling car and he said: “I have a strong feeling the driver is going to have a great appreciation of what it means to be alive from this point forward, The Sun reports.”
