Mitu’s mobile number still active: Parents

The mobile phone number used by former Superintendent of Police Babul Akter’s wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, who was killed last year in Chittagong, is still active, her parents claimed Thursday.

They came up with the claim while talking to journalists after emerging from the office of Detective Branch of police in Chittagong this afternoon, according to reports. “Mitu’s mobile phone number is still active and is being used by a driver of CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Moghbazar of Dhaka,” said Mitu’s mother .

Earlier, detectives quizzed Mitu’s parents there for around five hours over her murder till 4:30pm. The victim’s mother said they don’t think Mitu’s husband Babul Akter had any role in the killing of their daughter.

Mitu’s father Mosharraf Hossain, however, demanded thorough investigation to find out the real culprits behind the murder. On June 5 last year, three assailants stabbed and shot dead Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, 30, when she was taking her son to his school bus stop at GEC intersection in the port city.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kamruzzaman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case filed over the murder, said the victim’s parents were quizzed to know their views in this regard, their relationship with Babul, and the whereabouts of the couple’s children — a son and a daughter.

Asked, the IO said it would take time to find out why and how Mitu’s mobile phone is still active, adding that IT experts were working on figuring it out. “You will come to know about the next step and progress into the investigation on the murder in due time,” ADC Kamruzzaman further said.

Mitu’s parents added that they are regularly in touch with Babul Akter and his children, Agencies report.
