Two cases have been filed against bench assistant of Shariatpur deputy commissioner’s office Imam Uddin and his wife for allegedly misappropriating over Tk 1 crore through making fake invoices, UNB reports. Assistant commissioner Zinia Zinnat and office assistant Nazmul Hasan filed the cases against Imam Uddin and his wife Kamala Akhter with Sadar Police Station on Thursday.
Zinia Zinnat said they found the forgery while scrutinising documents and papers of Imam as he was being transferred to Zajira. A police team in a drive arrested Kamala but her husband went into hiding after the incident came to light, she said. Sources at the DC office said Imam was the bench assistant under different executive magistrates from February 23 in 2013 to May 26 this year.
The executive magistrates realised Tk 10,530,550 through conducting 3,595 mobile court drives during this period. Imam, who was supposed to deposit the amount to the sadar branch of Sonali Bank, misappropriated Tk 10,080,000 in collusion with his wife. He made 754 fake invoices of the bank and submitted those to the DC office. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Monirul Islam confirmed the case filing.
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police will carry out investigation into the allegation, he said.
