Mojaheed to file review petition: Defence

War criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed will file a petition with the Supreme Court seeking review of its judgement that had upheld his death penalty for killing intellectuals during the Liberation War in 1971, one of his counsels said today.
The review petition will be filed on behalf of Mojaheed by October 15, Advocate Shishir Manir said after he along with four other lawyers met with Mojaheed at Dhaka Central Jail around 10:30am on Saturday.
“The secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami is physically and mentally well.” he added as he came out of the jail around 11:40am.
Mojaheed hoped that he will be acquitted in the review as he was not involved in any crimes against humanity in 1971, Shishir said quoting his client.
The Jamaat leader thought that prosecution could not bring any specific allegation against him of killing any intellectuals in 1971, the lawyer said.
A total of 42 cases were filed in 1972 for the killing of intellectuals in 1971, but he was not an accused in any of the cases, he quoted Mojaheed as saying.
The lawyers said that a three-member inquiry commission had been formed headed by renowned filmmaker Jahir Raihan for conducting a probe into the incident of intellectuals killing. Two other members are Barrister M. Amir-Ul Islam and Barrister Moudud Ahmed.
The committee report was not placed before any court. If the report was published the perpetrator of intellectual killing would be found, Shishir quoted Mojaheed as saying, agencies report.
