A 24-year-old woman told police that she had filed a fake complaint of rape, hours after she alleged on Saturday that two men picked her up in a sports utility vehicle outside a metro station in Noida and assaulted her for more than eight hours, the Noida police said,Hindustan Times reports.
“The woman has given in written that the complaint filed against two unidentified persons was false and does not want any investigation into the matter,” said Manish Saxena, the public relations officer of Noida police.
The woman apparently made the complaint out of anger, he added. The National Capital Region has earned notoriety for being unsafe for women but Saturday’s complaint underlines a growing problem of false allegations, which courts have issued warnings on.
The Noida police said it will still continue investigation. An FIR cannot be quashed by the police and she will need to record her statement before a magistrate. The court will decide if the case holds up.
In her complaint, she said she was pulled into a Mahindra Scorpio on Friday evening around 6.30pm when she was waiting for an autorickshaw near Golf Course Metro station in Noida.
The woman made a call to police from near the Akshardham temple around 2am, after which a Delhi Police team reached her. She was then brought to Noida. Circle officer city-1, Abhinandan, said the woman’s external examination did not show marks of physical assault.
