Outlaw demands toll from Madaripur journo, Shariatpur AL leader

In separate incidents, an outlawed party leader has demanded Tk 42 lakh as toll from a local journalist of Madaripur district and an Awami League leader of Shariatpur over their mobile phones from the same number, UNB reports.

The caller, identifying him as Sarbahara Party leader Major (retd) Ziauddin, called UNB Madaripur district correspondent Khaledur Rahman Belal Khan around 11am demanded Tk 12 lakh from him as toll.

He also warned the journalist that he would be kidnapped if the demand goes unmet. Meanwhile, Shariatpur district AL general secretary freedom fighter Abul Fazal Master received a call from the same number around noon when the caller identified him as Ziauddin and demanded Tk 30 lakh from him.

The caller threatened to kill him if he does not pay the toll as demanded. Separate general diaries were lodged with local police stations. The officers-in-charge of Madaripur Police Station and Palong Model Police Station in Shariatpur said they will take action after tracking the number using modern technology.
