Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal inaugurated at DU

The Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal, named after one of the most legendary painters in the country’s history, has been inaugurated at the Faculty of Fine Art of Dhaka University (DU),UNB reports.

Qayyum Chowdhury’s widow Tahera Khanam, herself an artist handed over a cheque of Tk. 10 lacs to DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique on Sunday at the VC’s office to introduce this gold medal.

Every year one meritorious student who secures the highest CGPA in BFA Honors final examinations among the eight departments under the Faculty of Fine Art will be awarded Artist Qayyum Chowdhury Memorial Gold Medal.

Dean of the Faculty of Fine Art of DU Prof. Nisar Hossain and Chairman of various departments of the fine arts faculty were present on the occasion. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr.  AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked the donor for her donation. He hoped that the students would be highly benefited and encouraged from this donation.
