Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged people to reelect her party in the next general election giving it another chance to serve people and maintain the current massive development activities,UNB reports.

“If you want to see massive development activities, then there should be the continuation of the government. If the BNP-Jamaat alliance, which had grabbed power illegally, unleashed terrorism, militancy, comes to power, then the country’s development will get stalled,” she said.

Sheikh Hasina, also the President of the ruling Awami League, was addressing a mammoth public rally organised by its local unit at Santahar Stadium in Adamdighi.

Mentioning that the country’s people got independence, economic emancipation and huge development through casting their votes for ‘Boat’, the election symbol of Awami League, Hasina told the huge gathering, “Please cast your votes for ‘Boat’ in the next general election, help us became victorious again and thus give us another chance to serve you.”

The AL chief said whenever her party assumed office people got something, but when the BNP-Jamaat took office, the ‘sheaf of paddy’ turned blight, as there was food deficit in the country. “There were corruption, terrorism, militancy and looting in the country when they (BNP-Jamaat) were in power.”

Listing her government’s massive successes and achievements in various fields over the last eight years, Hasina said her government wants to reduce the poverty rate further from the existing 22 percent and ensure homes for all.

Reiterating that her government will not allow terrorism and militancy on Bangladesh’s soil, she urged all to strongly stand against these menaces so that the government can continue the development in a peaceful environment.

She also urged people from all strata of life, including guardians, youths, teachers, imams-Muajjins, Ulema-Mashayekh and the leaders of society, to be more vocal in this regard. “We want to establish peace in the country. Islam is a religion of peace, brotherhood and solidarity. It’s never in favour of killing,” she added.

Asking the youth and children to pay proper attention to their academic activities, the Prime Minister said, “We give you free textbooks despite various hurdles…so, you’ll have to pay the due attention to your studies, fare well in exams and thus become good human beings. You shouldn’t be involved in terrorism, militancy and drug addiction in any way. You’ll have to fulfill the desires and aspirations of your guardians and thus serve the country and its people.”

She also took a swipe at the BNP-Jamaat clique, including BNP chief Khaleda Zia, for killing people, indulgent in unbridled corruption, looting, unleashing countrywide terrorism and militancy during their tenure.

Ridiculing Khaleda for her announcement not to return home without ousting the government, Hasina said people then did not accept arson, vandalism, killing and burning people to death by the BNP-Jamaat clique in the name of so-called movement, and the country’s people will not accept such acts in the future either.

Mentioning that her government believes in balanced development, she said Bogra has witnessed massive development like other parts of the country over the last eight years for this.

She said a Special Economic Zone will be set up in Bogra while law is being enacted to establish a university here.
