The government has decided to cut import duty on rice further by making it only two percent in place of 10 percent in a bid to stable the market price, Agencies report.
Moreover, government has decided to import 15 lakh metric tonnes of rice and five lakh metric tonnes of wheat from abroad.
The decision came from a Food Planning and Feeding Committee meeting at secretariat on Wednesday (Aug 16). After the meeting, Food minister Kamrul Islam briefed reporters.
Earlier in June during the haor havoc, government slashed import duty on rice and made it 10 percent in place of 28 percent.
