A suspected robber was killed in a gunfight between his cohorts and detectives at Baraichhari village in Trishal upazila early Wednesday, Agencies report.
Tipped off that a gang of robbers was taking preparations to commit robbery, a team of Detective Branch of police went to the village in the dead of night, said Imarat Gazi, officer-in-charge of Mymensingh DB.
Sensing the presence of the DB men, the bandits opened fire on them, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
After a brief exchange of gunfire, police arrested six suspected robbers, including Ashraful Islam, 28, son of Shamsul Haque of the village, who was caught in the line of fire.
Ashraful was taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead. He was a member of inter-district robber gang, police claimed.
