RU observes Teachers’ Day

Teachers’ Day was observed at Rajshahi University on Sunday commemorating the 49th anniversary of martyrdom of RU teacher Shamsuzzoha, Agencies report.

The university authorities, various social, political and cultural organisaitons of the university arranged a number of programmes that include placing of wreaths at the grave and monument of professor Zoha, hoisting of black flag, Quran Khwani and memorial speech.

Black flags were hoisted atop all administrative buildings, VC’s residence, library and students’ residential halls in the morning.

Professor Shamsuzzoha, the then Rajshahi University proctor and a teacher of Chemistry Department, was shot dead by Pakistani military in front of the university’s main gate on 18 February, 1969 when he went there to protect the students who had brought out a procession violating section 144.
