WT24 Desk
Students of 2013-14 session of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology on Tuesday went on strike demanding the cancellation of the ‘33 credit’ system to get promotion.
They confined RUET vice-chancellor, Rafiqul Islam Beg, to his office from 10:00am to 1:30pm, as part of their strike, reports United News of Bangladesh.
RUET sources said according to the ‘33 credit’ system, which was introduced in the 2013-14 academic session, a first-year student would be promoted to the second year only if he/she gets 33 credits out of 40 in two semesters.
The students alleged university authorities did not disclose the changed promotion rules till they had already started attending classes.
The agitated students said 40 students of their session could not achieve the targeted credit. As a result, they would not be promoted to second year.
On the other hand, denying the students’ allegation, the vice-chancellor said the system was clearly explained to the students in their orientation class.
