Shadman Sakif and Shafat Ahmed, two of the five accused for raping two private university girls at a posh hotel in Banani of Dhaka, confessed their involvement on Friday while the three others are absconding, Agencies report.
During primary interrogation, the duo admitted the accusation of rape, said DMP Joint commissioner Krishna Pad Roy, at a press briefing.
Earlier in the morning, Sakif and Shafat were taken to the DB (Detective Branch) office of police. Victim Support Center (VSC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) escorted them into the DB office.
VSC Deputy commissioner Farida Yasmin told Banglanews that the case filed with the Banani police station over the rape was transferred to VSC of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Earlier, on Thursday night (May 11), police arrested the duo from Sylhet city.
Shafat Ahmed, the prime accused, is a son of Apan Jewellers’ owner Dildar Ahmed, and Shadman Sakif is a son of Regnam Group director Mohammad Hossain Jony.
This incident, occurred a month before, has caused a stir all over the country when the one of victims filed a case on May 6 with city’s Banani police station.
Five were accused in the case. Two of the accused, including Shafat Ahmed, are university friends of the victim girls.
The four other accused of the case are Shafat’s friends — Nayeem Ashraf, 30, Shadman Sakif, 24, and his driver Billal, 26.
It was alleged that police were dilly-dallying while filing the case because the accused were from rich families and that there could be an underhand dealing.
In the compliant, it was said the girls were sexually attacked and filmed after they were invited to a birthday party at the Raintree Hotel at Banani in Dhaka on March 28.
The two girls said they did not file the case earlier because the accused threatened them with dire consequences.
The girls accused Shafat and Nayeem of locking up in a room and raping them overnight. The two girls were raped by Shafat and Nayeem at gunpoint while the three others helped them and filmed the incident.
