Dhaka – All the mobile phone subscribers will have to reregister their subscriber identification modules (SIMs) and removable user identity modules (RUIMs) with the fingerprint from December 16 next, agencies report. Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) issued a notice in this regard on Thursday.
As per the notice, the mobile phone subscribers must complete the registration process through filling up a BTRC–provided form at any customer care or service centre in person. They will have to submit a copy of their National Identity card, it said.
The SIMs or RUIMs will be closed if anyone fails to complete the re-registration process by the stipulated time. The notice also said the National Identity Registration Wing (NID) of the Election Commission will verify the authenticity of the information. It said legal actions will be taken against the mobile operators concerned if any pre-activated or unregistered SIM or RUIM is found in the market once the re-registration process is completed.
It was also warned that one will have to take the responsibility if any crime is committed using the SIMs or RUIMs that are not properly registered.
