The amount of cash a student can carry in dollar while going abroad to study has been raised to $500, marking a $300 increase.
The Foreign Exchange Policy Department of Bangladesh Bank issued a circular to this effect on Monday.
Before this, a student, while leaving Bangladesh, could carry a maximum of $200 to meet expenses until getting admission to an overseas institution.
The circular said: “The Bangladeshi students who will go abroad for study can use or spend up to $500 (each) until admission to that institution.”
In explaining the hike, the central bank said the earlier sum of $200 was “insufficient” to meet pre-admission expenses.
