The Queen has been presented with her official 90th birthday cake by Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain, 31. As the monarch cut the orange drizzle sponge in Windsor, everyone sang Happy Birthday. Nadiya said: “My theory was that if lemon drizzle was good enough for Mary Berry, we could change it up for the Queen .
“She asked me what was in the cake. She asked me if it would cut. “I’d seen the problems she’d had at the Women’s Institute that she couldn’t cut the cake so I guess she was thinking about that too! “That’s what I wanted – for her to cut it, so I didn’t make a fruit cake.
“It was three tiers, 12 cakes, 42 eggs and it took four days to make. “You’ve got to feel some pressure as it’s the Queen. Every time I tried to forget, my husband kept reminding me ‘Hey hey, no slacking, it’s the Queen!” Nadiya also revealed that the Queen and Prince Phillip hinted they were Bake Off fans.
“It was quite funny with the Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen told him [about me] ‘She won the baking show.’ He replied ‘Well of course I know that!’ – so maybe they watch the show. “I love their chemistry. It’s great. They’re amazing.” “What do I do now? “Something for the Obamas? Maybe we could just wrap some of the cake in a napkin and give it to them.”
The Queen and the Duke then got into their ‘Queenmobile” for a ride round Windsor’s streets, The Mirror reports.
