TERRYFYING footage has emerged of the moment armed terrorists opened fire at a beach resort in the Ivory Coast, The Sun reports. Staff and holidaymakers can be seen going about their business when suddenly gunshots ring through the air. The panicked people run for their lives and duck for cover as women and children can be seen fleeing the bar in the Hotel Etoile du Sud.
The Al Quaeda terrorists who claimed responsibility for the attack which saw 18 people massacred were allegedly seen knocking back beers before committing the atrocity. Eyewitness Christian Eddy, who works at the bar, said the four men arrived around noon on March 13.
He said: “They didn’t speak French. They spoke Arabic. We communicated with them in English. “The guys who were still outside started shooting and the two seated at the table yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ and flipped over the table.” He added that he also saw the men kill a boy after forcing him to kneel and then executed a deaf child on the beach.
Eddy said: “People were yelling ‘Come over here!’ But he didn’t know what was happening and just went down to the water. “They shot him in the water.” The terrorists – from al Qaeda’s North African branch al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) –then moved up the beach, continuing their savage killing spree in several hotels.
Fifteen civilians and three soldiers died before security forces managed to stop the attack, while Ivorian authorities say a total of six attackers were killed.
