A YOUNG girl courageously sacrificed herself in order to save two toddlers from a fatal car crash, The Sun reports. Brave 10-year-old Kiera Larsen was hit by a Mercedes-Benz that backed out from the driveway of a house in Los Coches Road, California. She sacrificed her own life to push one-year-old Adison Jenkins and two-year-old Emma Jenkins out of the way of the rolling car.
After the critical collision at around 5pm on Monday, emergency services quickly rushed to the scene. Tragically, as soon as Kiera was taken into Sharp Grossmont Hospital, she was pronounced dead. Since the accident, Alissa Jenkins, mum of the two rescued girls, has referred to Kiera as their “big sister”.
She said: “She saved both my daughters’ lives. She is truly a hero. She will forever be my kids’ guardian angel. ‘These are my two kids that I have and both of them could’ve been gone in an instant and she stepped in and took over and did what she knows best to do – and that’s to protect those around her.” The local community has all rallied together to thank Kiera for her actions and raise money to give her the send-off she deserves.
Kevin Pearlstein, from the California Highway Patrol said: “A child died heroically, I mean if you think about it, she sacrificed herself for another small child. “We’re going to do an inspection on the vehicle, find out why this happened, find out if there was some sort of malfunction on the vehicle and go from there.”
The family has set up a Go Fund Me page for donations and has already raised over £42,000. They have written the kind message: “The entire Larsen family cannot thank every single one of you for your love, support and prayers.
“You have no idea how much seeing the support from so many people has helped us during this incredibly tough time.”
