Amidst violent clashes and alleged vote rigging, CEC Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad has claimed the Union Parishad elections have largely been ‘fair and acceptable.’The chief election commissioner was speaking to reporters on allegations of rigging levelled by the BNP after the polls to 712 UPs ended on Tuesday.
“Everyone has their own point of view. The allegations were made from their own perception. “But everyone saw how the voting was conducted. Nothing can be hidden in this era of technology,” he said. The BNP termed the election a ‘farce’ while Jatiya Party alleged 50 polling centres were captured.
The ruling Awami League, however, claimed the election was held in a festive mood. The CEC said, “Fair voting was held with festivity and participation of a huge number of voters.”
“Especially a large number of female voters cast their vote. The voters came to the centres and left without any trouble,” he added.
