War crimes suspect Yusuf Ali lands in jail

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) on Sunday sent war crime suspect Yusuf Ali of Mymensingh, arrested from Bagerhat on Wednesday night, to jail, UNB reports. The tribunal led by Justice M Shahinur Islam passed the order after police produced Yusuf, also forest officer of Sundarbans east division in Swarankhola range of Bagerhat, before the court.

The court also fixed February 4 for submitting the progress report of the investigation in the case, said prosecutor Barrister Syed Samsul Haque Sumon.  Talking to reporters, barrister Sumon said there was no bail petition for Yusuf Ali.    Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Yusuf Alam, son of Abdul Khalek of Chanpur-Harinakanda village of Jamalpur, from Dubla area in Swarankhola upazila on Wednesday night (December 9). Later, the elite force member members handed him over to Swarankhola Police Station. Yusuf was taken to Dhaka from Bagerhat on Thursday (December 10). On December 9, International Crimes Tribunal issued warrants for the arrest of eight war crimes suspects including Yusuf Ali for their alleged involvement in crimes like murder, rape, torture, looting and arson attack in Muktagaccha in Mymensingh district during the Liberation War in 1971.

On April 1, a case was filed against the eight war crime suspects of Mymensingh and Jamalpur for their alleged involvement in war crimes during the Liberation War in 1971.
