A woman sat naked on top of a London rooftop for four hours as a piece of performance art, according to Mail Online. Poppy Jackson was photographed straddling the gable of Toynbee Studios, in east London yesterday afternoon. Her bold stunt attracted the attention of dozens of passers-by, who took to social media to share their amazement. They reported only seeing Ms Jackson taking a couple of breaks during the piece.
Raquel Rodrigues, 29, was one of those who photographed the unusual scene. She told the Evening Standard that the artist was visible from the street and that ‘people were having a peek and then going back to work’. She added: ‘I don’t know how she got away with it – if I was walking around naked I’d be arrested.’
The performance, titled ‘Site’, ‘investigates questions relating to temporality, the body in site, representation and gender through consideration of the use of the body in performance as an activist practice’, according to an explanation on the artist’s website. Ms Jackson, who studied at Goldsmiths College, University of London and the London Dartington College of Arts, was set to repeat the performance today.
Her previous work has included a piece which involved 1,000 ladybirds and another where she shaved off all of her body hair with a cut-throat razor. She also asked for donations of menstrual blood for a previous project.
