A day-long workshop on ‘National Consultation Meeting with private sector’ jointly organized by the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies (IDMVS) and OXFAM held today at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the university, BSS reports. Dhaka University Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.
Director of IDMVS Prof Dr Mahbuba Nasreen presided over the function while Additional Managing Director of United Commercial Bank Ltd Mirza Mahmud Rafiqur Rahman addressed it as special guest. Country Director of Oxfam in Bangladesh Snehal V Soneji delivered welcome speech. Humanitarian Programme Manager of Oxfam Murshida Akhter gave vote of thanks.
DU Treasurer Prof Dr Md Kamal Uddin in his speech stressed the need for strengthening Public-Private Partnership to build disaster preparedness in the country.
He said, the poor people of the country are mostly vulnerable to disaster. Therefore, we have to work together for creating awareness among the people on disaster management. He emphasized on increasing more investment in research and development from CSR program of private sector to reduce disaster risk in the country.
It may be mentioned that representatives from 40 Private and Non-Government Organizations are participated in the workshop.
