The second phase of 51st Bishwa Ijtema concluded here with the ‘Akheri Munajat’, seeking peace, prosperity and development of the Muslim Ummah, held at the bank of river Turag this noon, agencies report. Muslims from home and abroad participated in the second largest congregation of the Muslims after Hajj.
Tablighi Jamaat senior organiser Mawlana Saad conducted the akheri munajat. Our Gazipur correspondent reports, some three million people from all walks of life joined the Akheri Munajat this morning. Ministers, MPs, political leaders and senior officials also took part in the concluding prayer along with lakhs of devotees.
To participate in the munajat, scores of people gathered at the Ijtema venue from early hours of today. Huge crowd was seen after the munajat on different transport modes including bus and train which were leaving Tongi towards different parts in the country.
The second phase of the Ijtema began on January 15 after a four-day gap of the first phase Ijtema held earlier from January 15 to 17 at the same venue.
Meanwhile, during the congregation, 15 devotees including two foreigners died. The custodian of the corpses, Md Adam Ali, told disclosed it to this correspondent. He said that the namaz-e-janazas of the deceased were held at the Ijtema ground and that the bodies were sent to their families.
Those who died today are: Nurul Alam,70 , son of Late Syed Ali of Natherpetua village of Monohorganj upazila of Comilla, Abdul Mabud Joardar,52 , son of Ekramul Haq Joardar of Badurtala of Chuadanga Sadar, Abdul Kader ,60, son of Javed Mollah of Char Adra village of Sarishabari upazila of Jamalpur district and Abu Taher, 40, of Sunamganj.
