BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has again claimed that her party founder Ziaur Rahman gave the Awami League its rebirth through reinstating multi-party democracy.
Discarding Awami League’s allegation that Zia destroyed the party, Khaleda said, “After assuming power, Ziaur Rahman gave the AL a rebirth through reinstating multi-party democracy and ensuring freedom of press. Otherwise, its name could have been erased from the history.”
The BNP chief said this while addressing a public meeting at Ramdeo Bajila Government High School in the afternoon.
She also ruled out the Prime Minister’s allegation that Zia barred her from entering into the country, saying, “In reality, Ziaur Rahman called her (Hasina) in sending a representative.”
Suspecting a link between Hasina’s homecoming and Zia killing, the former prime minister said, “Ziaur Rahman was killed 13 days after Shaikh Hasina had returned home. So, there might have been link between your (Hasina’s) return and Zia’s assassination.”
Threatening to wage a tougher movement after Eid-ul-Fitr, Khaleda said that Awami League should be unseated for safeguarding the country.
“We’re calling upon the Awami League to sit for a dialogue. If they do not respond, tougher movement will be waged after Eid-ul-Fitr.”
She was critical of AL government claiming that ruling party men have involved in siphoning off money and demanded formation of a judicial probe-body to bring the culprits to book.
“You (government) are filing false cases against others. But your poeple have plundered money from different projects like Padma Bridge, quick rental and share market and deposited with the Swiss banks,” she said.
