3 ‘robbers’ killed

‘Shootout in Cumilla

Three suspected members of a robbery gang were killed in a reported shootout with policemen in Burichang upazila of Cumilla early Monday, Agencies report.

Various equipments including pistol, bullets and machetes were recovered from the spot. 

The deceased were identified as Babul alias Torkari Babul, 39, Ershadul alias Asadul, 27 and Oli Mia, 43.

Police launched the drive on tip-off that the suspects were preparing for a robbery in Comalla village of the upazila, at the night.

Sensing presence of the law enforcers, they opened fire at the policemen, triggering a shootout.

Three of the gang sustained bullet injuries. They were taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital (CMCH) where physician pronounced them dead.

Each of the trio is accused in more than five cases filed on various charges including murder, illegal arms, robbery and drug dealing, said Cumilla Detective Branch (DB) of police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mayeen Uddin Khan.

The bodies were kept at the morgue for autopsies, he added.
