‘Drug trader’ killed

‘Gunfight’ in Narayanganj

A suspected drug dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion in Sonargaon upazila early Wednesday, Agencies report.

The deceased was identified as Hridoy alias Gittu Hridoy, 31, son of late Sabuj Mia of Habibpur area in Mograpara union of the upazila.

He was accused in 17 cases filed under Narcotics Control Act, including murder, Rab said.

Jasim Uddin, Additional Superintendent of police in Rab-11, told Banglanews that Rab in its cheek post set up at Chengrakandi, signaled a vehicle to stop. But ignoring the signal, the drug traders opened fire on them through window, forcing them to fire back in self-defence which triggered a gunfight.

Later, police found Hridoy dead on the spot, added the official. The elite force, however, detained the driver of private car, passengers Jahirul Islam Dollalr and Selim.
Two policemen were also injured in the gunfight.

Hridoy was the number one in the list of drug dealers made by Sonargaon Police Station. Police announced a reward of Tk 10,000 for him.
