She is on way home from Madrid
Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has agreed to take over the charge of the chair of the Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF) next year, Agencies report.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said prime minister accepted a proposal of Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine in this regard on the opening day of the 25th Annual Conference of Parties (COP25), known as the UN Climate Change Conference, here.
Abdu Momen was briefing reporters after the first day of conference on Monday (Dec 02).
“I’m ready to take over the charge of the chair of the CVF if everybody endorses this,” he quoted the PM as saying.
The CVF was founded by the Maldives government before the 2009 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, which sought to increase awareness of countries considered vulnerable.
Marshall Islands President Hilda Heine is the current chair of the CVF, a global partnership of countries that are disproportionately affected by the consequences of global warming.
The forum addresses the negative effects of global warming as a result of heightened socioeconomic and environmental vulnerabilities.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister left Madrid for home after wrapping up her three-day official visit to join the ‘Heads of State and Government Summit’ of the 25th Annual Conference of Parties (COP25).
A Biman Bangladesh Airlines special flight carrying the premier and her entourage members took off from the Madrid Torrejon Airport at 9:30am (local time) on Tuesday .
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the World Tourism Organization Hassan Mahmood Khandker saw the prime minister off at the airport.
The flight is scheduled to land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka at 12:40am on Wednesday (BST).
