Onion sold at much higher price

Mobile court fines wholesaler in Ctg

WT24 Desk

A mobile court has fined one wholesaler, with a amount of Taka 20 thousand, for selling onions at inflated prices at Khatunganj market in Chittagong, Agencies report.

The court, led by Executive Magistrate Towhidul Islam, conducted the drive
at Mahin Enterprises of Khatunganj today and found evidence of price
inflation.

“Onions imported from Egypt and China were purchased at Tk 40-45 per kg.
However, the same onions were being sold at a much higher price,” the
magistrate said.

Magistrate Touhidul Islam further said that drives against unjustified hike
in onion prices in Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar region are continuing and hence
onions from Myanmar are being sold at lesser prices.
