Right after the decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) to ban Bangladesh star player Shakib Al Hasan for two years, with one of that is suspended, the all-rounder has stepped down from the world cricket committee of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Agencies report.

Mike Gatting, Chairman of the World Cricket committee,  in a media release said: “We’re  sorry to lose Shakib from the committee, where he has made a great contribution over the last couple of years. As guardians of the Spirit of Cricket, we support his resignation and believe this was the right decision.”

Shakib was inducted in MCC in 2017 as the first Bangladeshi cricketer. The committee also comprises the players like Sourav Ganguly, Brendon McCullum, Ricky Ponting, Ramiz Raja and Kumar Sangakkara.

After joining the MCC, Shakib attended two of its meetings  in Sydney and Bengaluru. The MCC is a body comprised of current and former international cricketers and umpires from across the globe, meeting twice a year to discuss the prevalent issues in the game.

As per the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit’s verdict, Shakib will not be available to be involved in any cricket-related activities for the next 12 months.

During this period, he must work with ACU in the anti-corruption educational programme. If he can satisfy the ACU in the next 12 months, he will be able to be back to cricket after October 29, 2020.
